  Adopt a Pet

Best Friends

Best Friends is working with you -- and with humane groups all across the country -- to bring about a time when there are No More Homeless Pets.

The sanctuary, at the heart of Southern Utah's Golden Circle of national parks, is home, on any given day, to about 1,500 dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, and other animals.

In our home state, Best Friends manages a model No More Homeless Pets campaign with shelters and humane groups statewide to ensure that every healthy dog or cat that's ever born can be guaranteed a loving home.

And Best Friends reaches across the nation, helping humane groups, individual people, and entire communities to set up spay/neuter, shelter, foster, and adoption programs in their own neighborhoods, cities, and states.

The mission of Best Friends is driven by the simple philosophy that kindness to animals helps build a better world for all of us. And the work of Best Friends is supported entirely through the donations of our members and supporters. Through the generous hearts and hands of people like you, we can ensure that animals who come into the care of Best Friends will never again be alone, hungry, sick, afraid, or in pain.

Thank you for being part of this work of love.

Dog Adoption & Cat Adoption!

Search, see photos, then adopt a dog or cat at an SPCA, humane society or animal shelter

Adopt a dog, adopt a cat, or both!  More is better!

Please consider adoption before you buy a dog from a dog breeder or pet store. Adoption saves lives!

Thank goodness for the humane society, SPCA, rescue organizations and hardworking, dedicated animal shelter volunteers! Without them, there is no telling how many more dogs and cats would die each year. Dog rescuers and cat rescuers scan animal shelters constantly, looking for puppies and kittens of all ages whose time at the animal shelter has almost run out due to overcrowding, and giving them a second chance before they are euthanized. They all rely on volunteers and donations to keep their efforts going. Many rescuers use a network of foster families, who keep pets for adoption in their own homes while they assess their personalities and often provide any necessary training. Rescuers are very careful to make sure their adoptable dogs and cats go to the right homes. Each organization has its own application and screening process for potential adopters. In addition to protecting the pets, this process is designed to make sure you end up with the right pet for your family. Since pet rescuers really get to know their dogs and cats for adoption, they are able to match you up with the perfect companion. Volunteers also follow up with you after the adoption to make sure everything's going well. They can help you get through any rough spots by offering training tips and other advice. Adopting from a pet rescue group has another benefit: if, for some reason, things don't work out with your new friend, most rescuers will take the pet back, saving you a lot of heartache and headache.
